Dates for our 10th Annual Nettiannes Fall Shed Sale are October 6 & 7, 2023!
Nettiannes was a dream of a 10 year old girl who used to write the name over and over in different handwriting and styles while dreaming about a cute little shop that would someday have that name. After Sarah had her second daughter it was time to find a way to do something at home while having two daughters under 2. For years, she had collected worn out treasures and items to upcycle and the idea of a porch sale was born to see if anyone would even be interested in her assortment of wares. The porch on her farmhouse was loaded with goodies, a hand painted sign by the driveway and some advertising in the local paper was all that was needed to bring a large crowd and a near sell out of treasures in October 2013. More dreams and sketches were done to expand the sale to the shed, use the pasture for parking and work out the logistics of vehicles driving in/out. For the next few years, this business operated with occasional sales.
Each year the number of extra vendors grew, the crowd grew, live music was added and then food trucks.
We actually found out we were pregnant with our son the weekend we kicked off our Shed Sale in 2014!
Nettiannes is definitely a family business and everyone chips in-we could not do it without them!
From 2016-2021, Nettiannes provided the gift and home decor items to the three Cornerstone Apothecaries in Marengo, Van Horne, and Belle Plaine.
In January 2022, Nettiannes consolidated everything into a single brick and mortar location that was rented in Belle Plaine. This location opened in February 2022 with full service floral and home/holiday decor and gifts. Annual shed sales continued at the homestead during this time as well.
In September 2022 an opportunity to purchase the building at 802 12th Street became available and Nettiannes moved ahead with this purchase
of this amazing 2-story corner building that we call home today with full service floral & plants, gifts, home decor and so much more!!!
A selection of our gifts, candles and seasonal items is also available at Main Street Bakery & Cafe in Keystone, Iowa.
We have been drawn to a handful of buildings in our travels and junking that have a history and provide inspiration, motivation and just put off a good vibe.
That is our goal in our shop on Belle Plaine's historic main street-come in to shop, to visit, to smile and be uplifted.
Here is your original "Nettie"-the store is named after her! Annette has picked up the sweet nickname from her 7 grandkids. Her dad also called her "Little Anne" when she was little, so the combination Nettiannes was built from that by Sarah. When she was in high school she worked in a local jewelry store with her mom and gained a lot of knowledge about dish lines, collectibles, and working in a shop. She worked in banking for a number of years before retiring. She raised 2 children who both live close by which means lots of ballgames and school events for her to attend for her 7 grandkids!
Retirement is full of helping at the shop, grandkid activities, garage sales, meeting friends for lunch, taking care of her super cute yard and hanging out with her sheltie, Goose!
Sarah grew up in a very crafty household-always some project going on with her mom, Annette. Strong baking skills also came from her mom and granny and learning how to throw fun parties with vintage dishes, etc. Her dad also enjoyed woodworking projects and home projects as well. As a high schooler, Sarah worked at the local dime store and learned about cutting material and working with even more craft mediums as well as learning a lot about the retail store world. Through college she worked in a Christmas store in the Amanas. College took her to a career in a medical administration office for 12 years before starting Nettiannes. Her husband is a veterinarian and she has daughters Lucy & JoJo and son Sully. Sarah enjoys crafting, baking, garage sales, thrifting, collecting plants, trying new recipes and being a 4-H leader.

We sell a wide variety of flowers including roses, lilies, tulips, daisies, carnations, wax flower and many more. During the months of June-September we source many of our flowers from flower farms right here in Iowa. Seasonal flowers that we are getting in this time of year may include cosmos, snapdragons, campanella, blue thistle, sunflowers, delphinium, nigella pods, orlaya, clary sage, salvia, dianthus, various grasses, pennycrest, and more. As we move through summer, our local growers have changes in their supply and we adjust with them all the way through fall with pumpkins on a stick, broom corn and millet. We do have other resources that we use to get regular stock or something we need on short notice. We do not always have all of these varieties in stock at the same time, but we strive to have a color full of color and texture each week that we can use to make a variety of arrangements.
